Sailor Moon is a magical girl superheroine and the main character of the manga and anime series of the same name.
Origin[]
After being approached by a talking cat, Usagi Tsukino discovered she was chosen to help protect the Earth from evil using magic powers as Sailor Moon.
Biography[]
Princess Serenity[]
The daughter of Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity was born as the princess of the moon in the age known as the Silver Millienium (when exactly that was is unclear though it has long faded from human memory). Sailors Mars, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter were also princesses of the planets whose names they share, though would often visit Princess Serenity and were her closest friends.
Despite orders to the contrary, Princess Serenity would often visit the Earth to see its beauty and one day fell in love with Prince Endymion, the ruler of the Earth, as he fell for her. Later, during the day that the Moon Kingdom fell, Endymion sacrificed himseld to save Serenity, though Serenity was so oversome with grief that she took her own life. After Queen Serenity defeated the evil that threatened the Earth (at least, for a time), she found that her daughter and her loved ones were dead, so she used her powers with the mystical artifact known as the Silver Crystal to garauntee that they would be reincarnated years later, in hopes that Princess Serenity, Endymion and the Princess' close friends could be reborn in an era of peace.
Usagi/Serena[]
In present day Tokyo, Princess Serenity was reborn as Usagi Tsukino (Serena Tsukino in the DiC/CWi dub), born to Ikuko Tsukino (her mother) and Kenji Tsukino (her father). She grew to be a clumsy, average teenage girl concerned with nothing more than boys and goofing off. But when she was approached by a talking cat named Luna, she was told that she was Sailor Scout named Sailor Moon and that it was her duty to fight against the forces of evil and find the true re-incarnation of the princess (neither one of them realizing that she was). Though she proved herself somewhat clumsy at fighting evil, she was able to complete her first mission with the help of a mysterious handsome mystery man named Tuxedo Mask. Over time, she and Luna found more people with powers like hers called the Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts or Sailor Guardians in many English translations), who were in fact the reincarnations of Princess Serenity's friends and the princesses of their namesake planets. They would often gain assistance by the mysterious Tuxedo Mask and was able to stop the evil that threatened the Earth, known as Queen Beryl. Though Queen Beryl's forces would try again and again to defeat Sailor Moon, the Sailor Scouts would always defeat her minions, destroying them one by one. The two factions learn that an ancient item known as the Silver Moon Crystal is needed to end their war, causing both sides to seek out pieces of it.
Eventually, Usagi came to learn that Tuxedo Mask was actually Mamoru Chiba (Darien Shields in the DiC/CWi dub), an acquaintance of hers with whom she had a rivalry. During this revelation, she also discovers that she was in fact the reincarnation of Princess Serenity and the Sailor Scouts were her friends in a previous life. This also includes the fact that Mamoru was in fact the reincarnation of her true love in a past life Endymion and though they soon realized their love for each other, Mamoru is kidnapped by Queen Beryl's forces.
With newfound determination, Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians eventually broke Mamoru free from Beryl and her master Queen Meteria. However, just as Mamoru is freed, Sailor Moon learns the only way to complete the Silver Moon Crystal is to kill Mamoru as it lies within him. Sailor Moon seemingly kills him and herself (though the blows actually just knocking them unconscious) to create the Silver Moon Crystal, which allowed Meteria to take control of their power by absorbing the pair. The Sailor Scouts find they are unable to stop the now all powerful Meteria but are able to sacrifice their lives to teleport and re-awaken Sailor Moon and Mamoru.
Sailor Moon, with Mamoru's help, used her power to defeat Meteria once and for all. Afterward, she used the Crystal to restore those killed by Meteria, including the other Sailor Guardians. With the enemy defeated, it seemed that the Guardians and Mamoru could continue their lives as ordinary teenagers.
However, later on, a new threat appeared in Tokyo, and so, from then on, Usagi and her friends have continued to fight evil as the Sailor Guardians.
Dark Moon[]
Usagi and Mamoru, having fallen in love over the course of their previous adventure, began to date. During a date, a small girl and a robotic cat head resembling Luna fell from the sky onto both of them.
