BiographyEdit

The Doom PatrolEdit

Clifford Steele was a daredevil athlete who triumphed in a great number of dangerous sports, ranging from mountain climbing to spelunking. He was also a worldly man, having spent 6 months with an African tribe and trekking across the Himalayas. He eventually joined the NASCAR circuit as a professional driver and participated in the Indianapolis 500. However, during that race, he hit an oil slick that crashed his car and left Cliff's body completely beyond repair, though the brain was uninjured. Dr. Niles Caulder saved Cliff's brain and placed it into a robotic body of his own design. However, due to a design flaw, Cliff initially went temporarily insane and needed to be stopped by the superhero team known as the Doom Patrol. He then joined the team of outcasts and became its most loyal member.

During the course of his adventures, Cliff fought alongside the Doom Patrol against bizarre villains such as The Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, The Brotherhood of Evil, Madame Rouge, and General Zahl. Often, these adventures would leave Cliff's robot body damaged or even almost completely destroyed, but Dr. Caulder (called the Chief by members of the Doom Patrol) would always design him a new one. Though the heroes would always save the day, Cliff still felt regret about the loss of his body and the pain of being an outcast.

One day, the villain Madame Rouge plotted revenge on the Doom Patrol and began by murdering her old allies, the Brotherhood of Evil and teaming up with the Nazi villain General Zahl. Eventually, the two villains trapped on the Doom Patrol on an island, giving the team an ultimatum: either let themselves be killed by a bomb, or another bomb would blow up on another island, killing its fourteen inhabitants. The Doom Patrol proudly accepted their own sacrifice, even mocking the villains with their final breaths, asking them to bomb away. Zahl then unleashed the bomb, seemingly killing the Doom Patrol once and for all.
