Jack Deth is from the Trancers film series by Full Moon Productions, beginning in 1984 and is an ongoing series. Deth is a time-traveling policeman. Jack wears a trenchcoat and is a tough talker, similar to the noir or pulp characters of an earlier age. Mike Hammer is a good reference point. Jack Deth plays homage to Rick Deckard from the movie Blade Runner.
In the first 5 films, Jack is portrayed by actor Tim Thomerson in both his future form and in the body he inhabits in the past. In the sixth film, Zette Sullivan portrays the body of the ancestor Jack Deth inhabits, a female version called Jo Deth. The future Jack Deth is still played by Tim Thomerson. Thomerson appears only briefly in an uncredited appearance, utilizing archival footage. Another film, Trancers: City of Lost Angels, is constructed almost exclusively of archival footage and takes place around the time of the first and second films.
Origin[]
In the first film, Jack Deth is sent to the past to track down the manufacturer of a drug. When used, the user becomes a 'Trancer', a ravenous, zombie-like killer. The police force of the future uses a machine to send Jack to the past. When sent 'down the line' into the past, the device seeks out an ancestor of Jack Death whose body he inhabits while working there. Helen Hunt plays Jack's love interest and eventually wife through the first three films. Films 4 and 5 send Jack Deth into a world with a Medieval atmosphere, where Trancers act as a type of intelligent vampire, using their power as royalty and drawing life-force from their victims taken from the lower class.
Other Media[]
Jack Deth also appeared in Trancers comic books and trading cards.
