Biography[]

Captain Britain Brian

Brian Braddock as Captain Britain

Brian Braddock was born in Maldon, Essex to Lord James Braddock and Lady Elizabeth Braddock. He grew up in his family's ancestral home alongside his telepathic mutant twin sister Betsy and older brother Jamie.  An exceptionally bright boy, he went on to graduate early and went onto get a graduates degree in physics in Thames University. At some point before Brian acquired this degree his parents were killed by Mastermind, a supercomputer created by his father, a fact that he would not learn until years later.

Brian went onto work for Dr. Travis at the Darkmoor Research Centre. He was present when the villain Reaver raided the facility to kidnap scientists working there. Brian escaped on a motorcycle but was fatally injured in a crash. Dying, Brain was approached by the wizard Merlin and his daughter Roma. Brian was offered a choice between two magic relics, the hero's Amulet of Right and the warrior's Sword of Might. Brian chose the amulet and was healed and transformed into Captain Britain.

Brian used his powers to fight crime as Captain Britain until he felt he wanted to return to the life of an academic and passed his amulet to his sister Betsy. However on her first mission as Captain Britain, Betsy was attacked by the villain Slaymaster who then tore out her eyes. Betsy reached out to Brian with her telepathy and he rushed to save her. Brian took the amulet back from Betsy and used its powers to kill Slaymaster. He then returned to the role of Captain Britain while Betsy was given bionic eyes by the villainous Mojo and explored her mutant powers as Psylocke. It was during this time that Brian met and fell in love with the mutant/fairy hybrid known as Meggan.

Britanic

Brian as Britanic

As Captain Britain, Brian formed a team with Meggan and former X-Men members Phoenix, Shadowcat and Nightcrawler. The team was known as Excalibur and they protected Britain from threats from other dimensions. However on one mission Captain Britain was lost in the timestream and Phoenix had to sacrifice herself and switch places with him to save him. Brian emerged with a new personality and strange costume, having spent years lost in time. He called himself Britanic until he was able to return to his old self and become Captain Britain again. He then married Meggan and took time off from being a superhero once their daughter was born.

Brian was later corrupted by the dark magic of the sorceress Morgan Le Fey who made him wield the Sword of Might as her evil champion. The powers and title of Captain Britain were once again passed to his sister Betsy, who was tasked with stopping him. Armed with her evolved psionic powers as well as the Amulet, Betsy was able to to save Brian. He told her he was still dealing with the warrior rage of the Sword of Might and asked her to continue being Captain Britain. When his older brother Jamie used his reality warping powers to create alternate reality versions of various X-Men members to be his Captain Britains, Brian had to awaken the power of the Sword of Might to stop them. But this time Brian was able to contain the violent nature of the Sword and was transformed into Captain Avalon. After defeating the other Captain Britains, Brian decided to continue being Captain Avalon to defend the mystical realm of Otherworld as well as protect his family.

Powers[]

Captain Avalon uses the Sword of Might to draw upon the magical energies of Otherworld and give himself superhuman strength and the power to fly at supersonic speed. He can focus the energies around himself as a force-field or project the energies outward as concussive blasts.

The Sword of Might also serves a Captain Avalon's personal weapon and can be charged with magical energy, causing it to burn with mystic power and allowing it to cut through almost anything.

In other Media[]

He appeared in an episode of the Super Hero Squad Show cartoon in which it was established that Captain America is part of a team of characters similar to him like Captain Britain.
