Anti-Hero
From Superhero Wiki
An Anti-Hero is a protagonist who fights for the greater good, but not in the way a hero does. An Anti-Hero often has many qualities of a villain:
1. They may operate out of personal gain 2. They do not worry about killing people 3. They take part in morally gray activities
Anti-Heroes are often liked better then their do-good counterparts by readers because they are less annoying and more realistic. Face it, if an average person had powers, few would use them solely for good. That's not to say Anti-Heroes are poor at the whole hero occupation. Quite contrary, an Anti-Hero's freedom to kill often leads them to kill villains, thus stopping them from hurting people ever again. Each Anti-Villain is unique. Some are close to villains then others, while some regret what they do.
